EPSD BOE '18 Election Results
Election Day 2018 has come and gone, and the Englewood, NJ Board of Education results have not been finalized. A lot of residents have asked me about the results and to explain the outcome from my perspective. I decided to provide the data and give an analysis so that anyone could read it and draw there on conclusions.
Five people, including myself, ran for three seats. The sources of these results are the municipal clerk’s poll counts and the county’s count of the mail-in ballots. The provisional ballots have not yet been counted. Thus far, the difference between 1st place and last place is 329 ballots. The difference between 3rd place and 4th place is 106 ballots. The summary is as follows:

Englewood, NJ is comprised of four wards. When examining the results, Wards 1 and 2 cast 51.2% of the ballots while Wards 3 and 4 cast 48.8% of the ballots. It is notable that the 4th Ward cast the least number of ballots than any other ward and the 3rd Ward cast the most. When examining the ranking by ward, overall, Wards 1 and 2 preferred Molly Craig-Berry and Donovan Rodrigues as the primary and secondary candidates while Wards 3 and 4 preferred Juan Steven Berrios and Howard Haughton as the primary and secondary candidates. Donovan Rodriques was in any one of the top three positions in all wards. The rank of ballots cast for each candidate by ward is as follows:

Each ward has four districts for a total of sixteen districts across the entire city. When examining the results / ranking by all sixteen districts, the following emerges:
Juan Steven Berrios had the most first place wins (11 of 16) across all districts.
Juan Steven Berrios and Donovan Rodriques had the most first and second place wins combined (13 out of 16 and 10 out of 16 respectively) across all districts with Howard Haughton and Molly Craig Berry trailing (7 out of 16 and 6 out of 16 respectively).
Donovan Rodriques and Juan Steven Berrios had the most first, second and third place wins combined (15 out of 16 and 13 out of 16 respectively) across all districts with Howard Haughton, Molly Craig Berry and George Garrison III trailing (9 out of 16 for each).
The first and second place winners consistently outperformed the rest of the pack.
The third-place winner was decided by the higher number of votes cast in the 1st and 2nd ward as compared to the lower number of ballots cast in the 4th ward. Also, a higher number of mail-in ballots cast by the 2nd ward improved the third-place winner's results.
Wards 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2 and 2-3 favored the canididate team of Molly Craig-Berry, Donovan Rodriques and George Garrison III respectively.
Wards 1-4, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4, 4-2 and 4-3 favored the canididate team of Juan Steven Berrios and Howard Haughton respectively.
